What brought you to PYBA? It was an opportunity to take all the knowledge and skills that I’ve been taught by dedicated coaches over my playing career and pass it on to the youth in the same community that I grew up playing in. I want to give boys and girls the opportunities, experiences and memories that I was given as a player, as well as the inspiration to achieve their goals in basketball.
How long have you volunteered for PYBA? 1 year
What program(s) do you help volunteer with? U17 Boys
What is your favourite basketball memory?  I have so many great memories from all my basketball experiences. Many of these wonderful memories aren’t awards or titles, but just simple human moments, such as having a coach that I looked up to acknowledge my actions with great enthusiasm. But one specific epicly fun memory from my playing days would be winning an important home game at the buzzer with a difficult 3 point shot for my College team. I am pretty sure every kid growing up imagines winning a game like that, but not too many ever actually get the opportunity so it’s very special when it happens regardless of what level it happens in. I had practiced that shot so many times since I first was able to shoot from distance, and although my imaginary game winner was for a NCAA Championship, my real life home game buzzer beater in the OCAA’s was still incredibly exciting and an important achievement. The energy of the gym at that moment was so exhilarating. I won’t ever forget the joy as my teammates and fans rushed the floor.
What do you like best about PYBA? First of all, the fact that I grew up playing basketball in Peterborough gives me an immediate connection to the organization (even though it didn’t exist at that time). Secondly, because the PYBA hadn’t formed yet, I did not have the opportunity to represent the city in basketball, which is something I wish was available to me then. I think it’s so great that youth players have a city team to either work towards being a part of, or already be on and be proud of. Thirdly, I like the fact that the PYBA organization doesn’t just cater to the rep level, but it also creates opportunities for different skill levels through their house leagues and little baller sessions. Having something in place for youth to learn and fall in love with the game is of great value.
Who is your favourite WNBA/NBA player? The player who influenced me the most in my early years as I began to become truly engaged in the game was the ‘original’ Isaiah Thomas.

For the last 12 minutes of the game we had other kids on the team volunteering to sit so he could stay on the floor. Boys on both teams did everything they could to help him out and with about a minute left in the game, he made his first ever basket. The crowd had realized what we were all trying to do and went nuts when he finally scored.
